,∙•’ˆ`'-'´˜’•∙₊× Diplomatic Immunity ×₊∙•’˜´'-'`ˆ’•∙,

With darkness rapidly closing in around Ebonhawke, the orders detailing an unaccounted group of Charr near Summit Peak reached the Claw Warband, explaining a possible threat. Forming up and marching out under cover of darkness, no Vanguard even looked back at them as they marched through the city and out onto the main road leading from the city.

Reaching a Charr tank on the side of the road, the warband broke formation and investigated. Interrogating the Three soldiers present at the tank, behind them were two prisoners, hurling abuse at their captors and badly beaten. Securing the area, one Claw opened up the tank, the stench hit him first. Looking into the gloom, he saw every space piled with bodies of it's former crew. The three Charr "Soldiers" heard the cries of alarm and turned tail, dropping any act they were meant to be there and running. Clocking that they were Renegades, rifles fired and they were cut down in short order, the prisoners were liberated and geared up.

Clear now the Charr were Renegades, the fire from the soldier's rifles had alerted others nearby. They appeared atop a cliff above them, but they were suddenly lit up by a torch thrown up by a recruit, holding rifles, but Claw realised too late the rifles were pointed at them. With a crack of rifles, several Claw fell with wounds, pulled under the cliff, extreme prejudice was aimed at the clifftop shooters, pinning them down.

Barking commands, Claw raced around and up the slopes into Summit Peak. In the darkness, the Renegades began their assault. Claw had stumbled into an artillery emplacement. Taking more wounded, they smashed through the hasty Renegade defence, and destroyed the mortar emplacements, but not before they'd wreaked havoc on the Ebonhawke Camp below.

With a scream, Claw turned to look inside the Summit Peak tent, now in flames, witnessing several Vigil soldiers trying to defend a noblewoman from a warband of Renegades. With a shout, the former prisoner shouted she was one of the targets, the Renegades planned to use her to blackmail the Krytan envoy.

Asking no questions, the wounded were left for the medic to treat, while the rest of the warband smashed into the rear of the Renegade warband. Fierce fighting ensued, but despite the ferocity, a Charr Renegade snatched the screaming Human, and sprinted for the Human camp, with Claw in pursuit, a lucky shot hitting the Renegade in the leg.

Reaching the camp, Claw looked on in shock, the camp was the main assault for the Renegades. And it was wreathed in thick acrid smoke and flames, tents and flesh ablaze. With barely any visibility, and the very forest reduced to a burning inferno around them, Claw jogged through the blood slick mud. Picking up a trail of Blood that should have belonged to the Renegade, Claw followed it, assaulted by small groups of Charr and Surprised Vanguard alike.

Reaching a hidden cave, they peered inside, startling the Renegade, who clutched the Human as a shield. Negotiations failed quickly, and with a scout shadow stepping behind him, he panicked. With a crack from his pistol, the Human was sent screaming to the floor, her white dress soaked red with blood. With the line of sight clear, the Renegade quickly followed.

Rushing outside, the medic reached the cave just in time, and managed to save the Humans life, barely. She was stabalised, allowing Claw to regroup as the Renegade assault was slowly beaten back. Realising the two prisoners, one former Renegade, and one now Gladium of the tank crew found dead, were on their own, Claw took them with them back to the camp, giving the Noblewoman back to the Vigil troops, resulting in a hearty thanks.

,∙•’ˆ`'-'´˜’•∙₊× Thinking With Portals ×₊∙•’˜´'-'`ˆ’•∙,

Claw warband were sat around, enjoying their downtime with bandmates and friends when an unfamiliar face walked into the Canton. Introducing himself as Deno, an Asuran gate master, apprentice of one of the most knowledgeable Asura to have worked in that field.

Claw veterans realised he must have worked under Kripp, an Asuran gate master who Claw had aided in the past to seal a volcano before Primordius could use it to spawn thousands of his minions. In the process killing a lieutenant of Primordius who was desperately hunting down Kripp for his knowledge of the Asuran gate network, utilizing his "Faceless". Twisted destroyers, made of recently killed bodies, their name coming from the face that literally melted away as lava started oozing from eye sockets, ears and their maw.

The Claw veterans knew all too well what became of Kripp. Months ago, they helped Kripp use an Asuran device to cool and solidify the lava, cutting off the destroyers access. It worked, but the Faceless got a hold of Kripp, and before Claw could react, dragged him beneath the lava, which cooled shut, seconds after, cutting off the screams.

His final moments played out on a projection from a Volcano monitoring station brought in by Deno, the screams audible, before Deno cut it short, explaining that in his final moments, he screamed a location. He had discovered the location, a deep cave beneath Rata Sum, and with Claws experience on assisting Kripp in the past, wanted Claw to help again. Without an officer present, Claw agreed to help the Asura, and set off.

Reaching the cave, it wasn't long before they hit the dead bodies that had been hunted, or unwilling stumbled into the embrace of the destroyers. With sudden jerks and twitches, the bodies started pulling themselves up, becoming Faceless, and assaulting Claw with a blind fury. Cutting them down, Claw realised the threat, sticking close, they advanced into the cave, lit by the fire and rives of lava running around them.

Finding supply boxes and stone bricks, they realised the supplies contained materials to build an Asuran Gate, and the bricks, the structure. Pushing deeper into the cave, they found Destroyers finishing off an Asuran gate at the end of the tunnel, and a familiar Asuran shape ahead of them. Clad in rocky and fiery armour, most of his flesh burnt away, leaving bone and strands of muscle, and a single blazing eye. It was Kripp.

Charging the destroyers, Claw caught them by surprise and managed to put them down without much of a fight, the Destroyer turned Kripp laughed, activating the Asura gate, disappearing as the purple magic blazed into life. Deno quickly explained, the ultimate aim of the Destroyers was to use Kripp's knowledge of the Asuran gates to bring the Central Transfer Chamber, where Primordius himself first awoke, back to life, and use it as a gateway to every major city in Tyria. And it looked like they were very close to succeeding.

Opting to follow Kripp into the Central Transfer Chamber, Claw raced inside, looking around, they saw Asuran gates slowly coming online around the cavern, one by one. Searching for Kripp as fast as they could, they finally found him at a control panel, masterminding the reactivation. Attacking, Claw was assaulted on all sides by Destroyers, Faceless and Kripp himself.

After many of Claw were wounded, burnt or exhausted. Kripp finally fell. In one final act of vengeance, Kripp deactivated the gates, hoping to trap Claw deep underground, surrounded by Destroyers, before he fell. Claw started tending to their wounded, before an almighty roar shook the cavern, and one of the walls began to shake, and tear away. Racing back to the gate they'd come through, Claw found it powered down.

The cavern wall slowly tore away, giant fiery claws tearing away chunks of rock as a gigantic dragon tried to force it's way into the cavern, lava flowing through the hole made by the creature, slowly filling the cavern up. Deno rushed to the gate, pulling apart panels and wires as he started trying to rewire the gate. The creature unleashed a torrent of flame at them as it slowly managed to squeeze it's head through the hole, slowly tearing away more rock as it tried to reach Claw. With a shout of glee from Deno, the gate burst into life, and as the titanic creature finally pulled itself through the wall, Claw jumped through the gate, to safety.

,∙•’ˆ`'-'´˜’•∙₊× Collective Unconscious ×₊∙•’˜´'-'`ˆ’•∙,

With the Third Cohort taking heavy casualties while they held the Ascalonian wall and helped kept the ghost population down in the city, Claw warband was ordered to move in and relieve a particularly beleaguered warband of soldiers on the wall for some well deserved rest and recovery. Claw warband started mustering, and before they knew it, rather suspiciously so, the ruins of the once great wall were in sight.

Advancing up the grassy slope, it wasn't long before the ghosts caught sight of them, instantly, century old commands were shouted down the wall, and long dead warriors stood to, ready to meet the Charr preparing in the field below them. Claw warband with a single barked command fell back on their training, forming a front line of shields as their own arches and scouts took the back line.

Pushing up the slope, taking fire from archers, it was with an almighty cry that the Ascalonian ghosts, with the Foefire raging in their eyes, smashed into the Charr lines. Blades flashed behind the shields of the Claw soldiers, and ethereal soldiers fell screaming as Claw roared victorious. They pushed up to the stone steps of the wall, Claw scouts loosing arrow after arrow into the Ascalonian archers, tumbling off the wall with a cry before being silenced.

After a breif but brutal onslaught, the wall was ripped from the ghosts undying grasp, with a foot hold, the warband started pushing along the wall. But something didn't seem right. The world around them seemed... Out of place, some soldiers even reporting that moving bricks and rubble, revealed literal nothingness before being replaced by what a sane soul would normally expect to see a blink later.

Following orders, Claw advanced west along the wall to drive the final ghost presence from the area. But as they moved past a breach in the wall, something unnatural seemed to draw the Claw's attention towards the breach, leading into a great hall. Once again, more soldiers reported the same worries, something didn't seem right, objects only becoming detailed when stared at for a long time, an empty void hiding under rubble as if the ground itself was just a skin.

Finally mustering up the resolve to move inside the dimly lit hall, they were met with a sight that would make even the hardest soldier's skin crawl. A hall full of collapsed Blood soldiers, removing helmets, they realised with sudden apprehension, they were looking at themselves. Soldiers looking down at their own unconscious bodies. And then, they started collapsing.

One by one. The soldiers collapsed, hurried explanations, and attempts to rouse the unconscious soldiers failed. It wasn't long before they realised the bodies on the floor had a pulse. And they themselves didn't. Those still left standing started trying to drag the bodies out of the cave, away from whatever had trapped them there, and in an act of pure panic or genius, those who's bodies made it out of the hall suddenly vanished into nothingness. Once the last body was removed, those who made it out alive, woke up.

Coming to inside the same cave they had just left, they were met with a horrifying sight. A creature, with limbs as thin as twigs, but claws as large as a Charr's, eyeless hoods for eyes, and a gaping hole for a mouth, shuddering and jerking as it moved, had it's maw wrapped around a soldiers muzzle, as they watched, they saw it swallowing her very essence in long, greedy gulps as she slept.

Steeling their resolve, the few who woke up attacked, the creature screamed in response, and started tearing through the awake soldiers with claws sharp enough to cut through Charr iron, moving faster than they could follow, they had to rely on luck and raw nerve as they slowly cut down the beast, until finally it was overwhelmed and Beheaded.

With the beast finally put down, despite taking enough injuries that could wipe out a lesser Dragon champion, the rest of Claw started to wake up. Groggy, weak and exhausted, but alive. Not sure what had just happened, they limped back to the Citadel, a report sent back to the command core. Several Claw soldiers will have scars to remember their encounter with what they called the "Rotting Nightmare".

I do not believe Destroyers can actually 'corrupt' living beings. They are unique from say, Branded or Icebrood in that their spawn isn't made from corrupted life but from actual soil and rocks and the like. So therefore Kripp turned Destroyer... Should not be possible. Or maybe Anet changed this in the recent living story? I've not caught up yet.
Otherwise I commend you for the event storylines -- they're really creative. You always manage to catch the participants by surprise..

It could be possible this happens since (And I think most know this by now) that the remaning dragons and their dragon minions absorbs the powers from the defeated dragons, and gain some of their abilities I think.

Nah I'll be brutally honest, I know I'm a lore freak, I know what destroyers ARE and supposed to be. But when it came down to it I just wanted to create a new scary horrifying enemy for the Claws to face.

I know I'm pushing lore a bit, but to be honest I could play Devil's advocate and just claim "Destroyer Harpies" and "Destroyer Trolls" Are evidence of corrupted creatures being turned by the dragon's energies, just like Mordremoth had blighting towers, Kralkatorrik has "turning(?) crystals" and Zhaitan simply had resurrection spells.

To go into more detail the faceless themselves are just dead bodies that rise again, (Spoiler) as Primordius now has command over death magic, (absorbed from Zhaitan) and then start displaying properties similar to Destroyers, such as flesh being replaced steadily by rock, and blood and muscles by lava, hence the term "faceless" as their face just gives way to a gaping maw of oozing lava.

A couple of years ago, the writers of GW2 did an interview with GuildMag and specifically expanded on this topic to state that Primordus can "[convert] those living creatures into stone" with "a layer of rock over them" that turns them in that sort of fiery elemental-like state. So I think you're covered in the lore without needing to draw from Zhaitan.

Fire from the Skies.

Furios Fiercehold, of the Iron Legion, for a contineous period worked on his latest prototype, the Skyfire Rocket System, a weapon capable of firing long-ranged high explosive rockets into the skies and destroy large group combantants in a large area of effect.

The time, has finally had come to make it's primary weapons test, at the restless and relentless ghosts of Ascalon City, assisted by the members of Scour Warband, a representative of the Mist Warband, Koren Ironstorm of the Storm Warband, and a large majority of the Claw Warband. Given a temporary brevet command, Furios Fiercehold led the the larger group towards Ascalon City before and made several stops at Ashford Forum and Swordcross Outpost where the majority of the group would regroup and be given the stauts of the mission.

Sending a scout party made up by Koren Ironstorm and Fera Swiftclaw, they ventured deep towards Ascalon City. Quiet as it as the ruined walls of the city was enveloped in a thick but low, ghostly mist, except for the bird song and- Gun Fire?

Sending this report back to camp, Fiercehold send out a larger party to investigate this further- Koren Ironstorm, Fera Swiftclaw, Rogark Mendclaw, Magna Steelclaw and Miles Mistfur from the Mist Warband sent forth to investigate this. Close to entering the city, the stumbled upon a fleeing human, whose orgins soon were discovered to be Ascalonian. Alongside her brother and a group of mercenaries, they had ventured into the ghostly, accursed ruin city to uncover the bones of their ancestor- Captain Oakfield. But had been overun with ghosts. And with her brother still inside.

Koren and Fera ventured deeper into the city, while the rest took position outside the city while Mendclaw patched up the survivors. They soon stumbled upon the brother of the human- Desperatly trying to escape and talk his ancestor into reason. But he was soon cut down and wounded by his erratic and maddend ancestor.

Upon grabbing him, the ghosts soon set the alarm that charr was inside the city, and the city seemed to light up from the huge numbers of ghosts that rose, shrieking mad while ghostly bells rang across the city. The Group fled back to the Fiercehold's position where they had set up the artillery piece, and made themself ready for the onslaught to come.

The Ghosts, shrieking and roaring out ancient battle cries descent upon their position soon enough. Their Ghostly forms seemingly lighting up the ground with their numbers. But soon, the Skyfire Rocket System roared out it's deadly ordnace as they flew up into sky and soon enough, directed towards the ground, landing among the ghosts as the ground shaking and uprooting earth, rocks and plants while they exploded in a fury of smoke, fire and the shrieks of the ghosts dying once more.

But no matter the Fury and the Tenacity of the Shield Wall holding the Ghosts back, the roar of the rockets flying into the Skies and exploding among the ghosts and the smoke of gun powder being unleashed into the ranks of ancient ascalonian ghosts could truly stop their mad fury. Destroying one wave only gave way to a large force of ghosts descending upon them. Soon, the Ghosts began to come out of the ground and attack from all side. Yet, Fiercehold, holding true to the motto, despite the grim situation- Iron Never Bends - decided to hold ground even as he sent out flare over and over again in hopes to gain reignforcements

And Reignforcement did they recive. In forms of Sylvari Civilian arriving to the field- And much, much more. The ground shaking and trembling now from the fury of rockets- But from the giant weight and wheels of a huge War Wagon drived by Quaestor Armorclaw that arrived to the field, spewing out it's deadily cargo of cannon fire and decimating ghosts

The Ghosts, enraged at the ''monstrosity'' that destroyed their ranks turned to face it, even as they were in turn destroyed by guns, blades and magic by the defending forces that were given a moments breath to catch. Gaining the momentum, the combind forces began to advance, while the fury of the War Wagon and Skyfire pounded the Ghosts in a relentless devesation of their ordnace among the the ghosts.

Captain Oakfield, taking to the field with a large Ghost Battalion, larger then any of the attacking waves began to reform outside the Gate, and began marching no matter what, even as rockets and shells landed among them, they marched on as Claw and elements of Scour and Mist charged into the fray and pounded the Ghosts.

Captain Oakfield put himself a fight, sending the Charr Soldiers back and forth by magical shockwaves even as his forces began to fall back to defend the main breach. The Force soon managed to overcome the shrieking Captain and send him to death once more- or at least temporary.

Knowing that they would soon reform and possibly overrun them with the combind force that attacked them, Fiercehold aimed the Skyfire towards the breach and loaded them with even more highly explosive rockets, and ordered a tactical retreat to his position with the fighting group and the tank falling back, he unleashed the fury of Skyfire unto the wall.

Parts above the wall shook and released large ammount of wall parts onto the breach, crushing the portions of the Ghost force under them and destroying their forces outside the breach, screaming and shrieking as they were denying to themself of this apperent defeat. Soon enough, the quiet once more ensued over Ascalon City and it's surronding, littered with smoking craters, ruined parts of the wall and uprooted trees. The Silent and satisfied group, with a successful weapons test completed, they headed back towards The Citadel for some R&R inside the giant war wagon, and a happy Furios Fiercehold could finally check that Skyfire Rocket System was a completed and successful weapon to Iron Legion's growing arsenal..
