World Restructuring - What does this mean for us?

I like the idea of it, it's one of these changes that is just screaming for RPers to take advantage of. I can just picture it, Asura guilds specialising in building Golems to take down forts, Char Warbands creating large siege weapons and Norns charging into the front lines. Everything is there to build a great epic experience for RPers, they just need to get on with it and start building.

The other possibilities, can't say for sure. The comments are focused purely on WvW to the point where I have no idea what effects it could or could not have. I suppose it's just going to be more like Gw1 where, you have EU1, EU2, EU3 for the big cities so you could avoid any lag or spam which is great because it means that there is more of a chance of people meeting one another.

Server pride and all that? Eh. It's Guild Wars, not Server Wars.

What they've said so far is that the game will function exactly the same for PvE players, so (based on the information we currently have, at least) they are not about to remove megaservers or switch back to any kind of system where there is a concept of a server/alliance etc exclusively "owning" a PvE map.

It doesn't sound like they have any intention to change the game at all for people who don't WvW, which is why this is the angle that the discussion is approaching from. The questions in the thread are more concerned with whether there might be changes for rpers as an unanticipated side effect of anything they are doing.

Well if they're not changing it for PvErs, the answer is no then. Things will remain the same for the majority of us. My fear is that the changes will go through, a huge community is formed, and RPers are left in dust debating on how WvW can't be RPed, rather than trying to build a new sub community.

RP has the potential to make what is usually boring and stale content to be extremely engaging, with people making friends and rivals, gear meaning more than just stats and having pride in a guild and character. It's the perfect opportunity for the community to grow.

Btw, side note, very preemptive but as this project from Anet will be on going for a few months, perhaps we could have this thread sticked so if (hopefully) RP-WvW guilds form, or want to bring ideas forward there's a hub for them to do that?

You know that changing one thing can have unpredicted consequences on other things, right? Just wanting to make sure here, as that's how things work.

I'll just note that in the past, the only thing I have heard about RPing in WvW maps was that it got this reaction, at best... worst was a lot more hostile.

"Guys, go RP elsewhere, we don't need 10 people sitting in home fort doing nothing when we could use those slots raiding the enemy."

Feedback is great, and helps to improve us. If something seems off in my bios, come poke me and discuss it! If something is awesome, tell me! :)

I'm not saying this is from Rpers. I'm saying that as in reaction from other players outside of these RP groups.

I have my own ponderings about how it could be done, but that's unrelated. My comment is things I've heard other groups say.

I wouldn't say that saying how things could be done is unrelated regarding WvW RP guilds, I suppose in this thread it is though. I'm still skeptical over these changes effecting anything other than WvW, if Anet has said "It won't effect PvE." and there aren't any WvW RP guilds talking on here about it's changes, is there anything left to discuss other than make theories on what could happen...even though apparently they aren't going to happen anyway?

How do you know they aren't going to happen? Because Anet said so? They never said megaservers would make RP tougher to find when they implemented them, yet it still happened. We worked around it, but it still happened. Just because they say it will only affect WvW doesn't mean they're 100% right. There are many ramifications that could lead to unpredicted consequences, for everyone. Especially for RPers since they showed little to no regard to them in the past.

They are aware of it potentially affecting us this time though.
Even though they didn't have an idea yet on how to solve it.
I did put forth the idea to allow us to tag a guild as an rp guild or alliance. For the sake of the Mega server this would be an additional value to use to sort people in the right pve map. And work like the being on Piken Square or Tarnished Coast is doing right now.
Yes this would mean rp-ers that aren't in a rp guild/alliance could potentially have a harder time to find us. But in exchange, encountering random rp in the open world once you ARE in a rp guild/alliance would go up immensely. Since lets be honest, even now the megaserver can't see if somebody is an rp-er. All it sees is our connections through the guilds and friends lists we have.
The recruiting of new rp-ers for a guild would change a little but the rewards would be better.

As for potential abuse of it. If its an whole guild or alliance using the option purely for griefing, thats a reportable offence that would DEFF get them banned. Its not like how easy it would be if it was on the individual level as we suggested during the original Megaserver development. Chances of it happening especially if its an toggle that is account bound would be minimal.
If you have to choose between WvW matching up with your guildies, or PvE matching up with RP-ers only for griefing... I doubt it would happen as often. Add the choice of a PvP option too and the odds go down even more.
