From kills, either of players or npc's. Also in the chests you get for wxp levelling.

If you feel you are bad at pvp and can't imagin killing another PC 1 on 1, just stick to the zerg and follow the commanders commands. You'll get your kills.

Something that I noticed, though, is that badge drop rate has decreased significantly over the past few months. Which is sad, but okay :/

Thank you for the answers, however the original point of my comment was to highlight that for a "beginner's" guide there's information missing ^.^

Important information. That a new person should know. ^.^

Oh, and I have absolutely no issues killing another PC. I want to do it. I'd like to know where I can go to actually PVP? ^.^

The guide was made to cover the gameplay, not so much the loot. The loot you receive from WvW is the same with PvE, barring badges. Frequency, rate and difficulty is what makes WvW less rewarding than PvE.

By pressing B and picking a map lol. The moment you step outside your spawn, it's free game.

And if there is anything that a new person should know, please feel free to suggest! I've been playing WvW for a few months now, so it's a bit challenging to find out what new people might want to know~

Well you didn't quite answer my question. I've been in WvW so far. I haven't seen *ANY* PVP. What i've seen is someone screaming to gather on the tag, follow the tag and I saw a mess of red and then I was dead.

That is the PvP part. Like I said, the moment you step outside your spawn, you are free to kill and free to be killed. WvW is different to sPvP or tPvP in the sense that it is NOT a structured group fighting each other in a smaller playing field. WvW has various aspects of PvP, from large-scale combat (which is what you just experienced, zergvszerg) to small smirkishes (such as 5v5 or 10v10). You may find some traditional PvP (I mean duelling or 1v1), but they are few and far between.

Other sources of Badges:

-- Achievement chests - every 500pts of achievements you get some

-- WvW jumping puzzles. There are two different puzzles. One puzzle is in all three borderland maps in the northwest quadrant. The other puzzle, Obsidian Sanctum, is accessed through the Eternal Battlegrounds. The BL ones are pretty easy, once you are used to them they can be done in a few minutes. It is, of course, potluck as to whether other people in the puzzles will kill you. Sometimes people are friendly from other servers, sometimes people camp places people are likely to fall so they can be easily killed... which is kind of dirtbaggish but I've learned to immediately evade and move. I rarely get killed in puzzles these days as I've gotten good at reading what those red tags are thinking :d

As for pvp in wvw. If you're just in it for the pvp you'll likely get mad and frustrated because it's incredibly messy. People will see you fighting another server and come 'help' or a guy you are dueling's server mate can just come up and clock you from behind and spike you. It's often hard to tell as I come upon open field combat to tell if it is a duel and my ally wants me to leave it alone, but my instinct is to help and that's true of most people. Oh and something I've done is... see two people from different servers fighting, kill them both because they are so focused on each other... unpleasant, but if they are killing yaks, they need to die.

That being said, you can get duels by going to the Windmill at the south of any Borderland - there are often people who hang out for duels there and you can arrange them by finding the various server's sites and asking. Most habitual wvwers know this is a place where people duel and gvg so they leave it alone.

So everyone is dealing with the same small supply cap of 10 (Or sometimes 15). Honestly I don't know how anyone gets anything done. It dries up in mere seconds when doing... anything.

You are in the wrong map. WvW is not pvp. Its team oriented gameplay with pvp elements. Its as much an exercise in supply chain and logistics as it is a fighting game. It involves pvp, yes....but the game of wvw is the taking and holding of real estate (i.e. keeps, towers and camps). Manpower maintenance including sentries, yak escorts, zergs, havok squads and scout / roamers.

I love the playstyle myself. But many "pvp" ers seem to have issues with it. The Spvp maps might be more to your liking. Although ANet supposedly has a new map upcoming in wvw format that, they say, will be more conducive to small group play. We'll see, I guess.

Ah should update to add that Obsidian Sanctum now has its own map - it now contains a large arena for gvgs AND there are lots of free-for all pvp fights with people from other servers should that strike your fancy. To do the puzzle I just stealth past the opening to the arena as I'd rather just enjoy the jumping puzzle - obsidian sanctum is, I think, one of the best and most fun jumping puzzles out there.
